Well I have been in the navy now for almost a year. What I have learn is that you get to see lots of places such as Guam the Philippines, Japan. Well with seeing all these wonderful places comes a price. Literally will run you broke XD. But it is amazing I have done more in my 11 months of being in the navy than I have on my own in the civilian world. But the problem here is all my gaming friends and they are awesome all of them. They live in the United States, while I live in japan. So first problem is that I don't have the convenience of playing games whenever because of the time differences. My second problem is that with the navy I have a job and it is my priority so the little time I do have to game doesn't exit. So what I am getting to is I would like to keep my gaming friends but it is hard with going out, having fun, working, and the time difference. So I guess I am asking you "What would you do?"

Well, I guess you just wont have as much time with your gaming friends as you would like.

I also had a similar struggle, although not quite the same.. I wasn't in the Navy.

My friends all loved playing COD etc, like seriously 12 hours a day sort of thing. Me on the other hand could only handle like 4 hours a day. I would just get a headache and/or bored. They would all get annoyed because I was never online.

I guess you gotta find the balance between work, real life friends, going out, and online friends. What would I do? Hanging with friends in real life and going out in my opinion is far superior to spending time with online friends. (Sounds a bit harsh) I would do all the real life/work stuff you want to do, and that little bit of time you do have when you are home and bored, chill with your online friends (hopefully the time differences don't get too much in the way).

What's your MOS?

And im not sure if there is a right answer for your question. My dad lives in japan and with the way the time difference works I hardly ever speak to him and we're only 7 hours apart, let alone the ~14 hour difference between the US and Japan.
My suggestion would just be to add them on skype/facebook/steam and keep up with them whenever you get a chance, you can't really have flowing conversations but it's better than non at all. And maybe schedule a time with them where you know you can play and see if you can get a few of them online at the same time. Thats what I do with my buddies in the US.

I've personally never been "stationed" overseas but i have been Deployed and TDY overseas. When i do, i really dont have time for video games. What i do is just put video games on hold until i come back for months later. All i can say is do all the exploring and going to new places when you can, and when the time comes where you are stationed to a boring place, take out the video games. Thats honestly all i can say, who knows, Xbox one or PS4 would have a good amount of games out when you start having time and go back to the good times with your friends.

Thanks for your service man, and have fun in Japan.
