A gunman opened fire inside a New Orleans-area mall still busy with shoppers on Christmas eve, killing a man before he was taken into custody, police said on Wednesday.
Gary Franois, 25, fired multiple shots at 24-year-old James Vaughn, who had just made a purchase at a Foot Locker store inside the Oakwood Center in Gretna on Wednesday afternoon, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Vaughn died at the scene, and Franois was arrested without incident after fleeing the area. No one else was injured in the shooting, the sheriff's office said.
Officials said they believed Franois deliberately targeted Vaughn, as surveillance video showed the gunman waiting outside the store before entering the shop and killing him.
The shopping center was set to close roughly an hour and a half after the shooting took place, according to the mall's website.

Living in Baton Rouge, I see a murder like this on local TV news at least once a week. Ive been to this mall and it is all African American. The crime rate in NOLA is as followed:

Chart shows the number of contacts with police among offenders.
The reason why im stating this is because im not sure why this made National News. Yes its a very tragic story and my thought and prayers are with the victim. But why does someone in California have to know that a man was shot and killed in a mall in Louisiana? Is it because the media is picking up every crime they possible can that is involving a black male?

I don't really think he was trying to bring race into this. I believe that this is true because no many people lie about this stuff.

I am trying to make a point that the media is picking up stories that are involving young black males and putting bad labels on our GREAT police force. I actually have facts to prove my points unlike you. You do not make since in about 95% of your post.
