Try updating your controller
Settings - Devices & Accessories - Xbox one Controller - Update
Also, try changing the batteries in your controller, or using another controller maybe.

There can be a couple of solutions to this.
1. Might be muted (If the mute button is yellow it is muted)
2. Power cycling. Just hold down the xbox guide button or what ever its called for a couple of seconds and it should come up with turning of your console or turning of your controller.
3. Update the controller again. But this time use a micro-usb cable and take out the batteries, with the adapter plugged into the controller.

This happen to me to. I figured out that the boom mic that you plug into the headset wasn't in all the way and I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked.
