I have hosted lobbies on my personal GT, and I have joined several lobbies and also did DNS Codes way back when they were around, and I have only been banned once from GTA Online Not Xbox. It's possible to be banned from Xbox Live, but they don't ban everyone obviously. He could have also got banned for posting his GT in TTG, or got into a COD modded lobby.

you probably did something else to get yourself banned.

I've been banned 2 times with my accounts untill 31/12/9999 ( for ever )
And this is my 3th account so i'm never joining any crap lobbies again untill i know its safe.
I know it isn't allowed here (sorry) but recoveries are always safe....
