What are the Nazca Lines?

Etched into a high plateau in Perus Nazca Desert, a series of ancient designs stretching more than 50 miles has baffled archaeologists for decades. Along with simple lines and geometric shapes, they include drawings of animals, birds and humans, some measuring more than 600 feet across. Because of their colossal size, the figures can only be appreciated from way up in the airand there is no evidence that the Nazca people, who inhabited the area between 300 B.C. and 800 A.D., invented flying machines. According to ancient alien theorists, the figures were used to guide spaceships as they came in for a landing, and the lines served as runways.

Ok, So I'm a firm believer in aliens. However, I've never believed that there has been an encounter on earth. The numbers just don't add up. Mainly because of how far away even the closest star system is away from us (Aprx 4 light years). That is about 23.52 trillion miles. But enough about numbers. Let's consider wormholes. Now, they're incredible ideas, but from what we know about the science of black holes, they simply are not an option. (For my own sake I will not write about them any further.)
That's why I don't believe aliens have been to Earth in a nutshell.
On to business.
What do I think about these markings? Well they certainly raise some flags. For starters, it doesn't make sense for them to create these large drawings for themselves. So of course many people immediately think they were for aliens. That's a fairly rational idea. But I have my refutation. As many of us know, primitive civilizations were more often than not, religious in some way. And throughout history civilizations have been trying to please there "gods" through various means. I believe that is exactly what's going on here. They're just showing appreciation to there gods or something similar to that.
I just think people need to consider all rational approaches to a solution before making assertions of the highly improbable.
But... The Nazca Lines are just the beginning...

There are claims of Peruvian mountain tops being artificially flattened.

I must say, this doesn't look natural to me, but then again, I'm no expert.
All I know is, in nature, we call this a plateau. Plateaus can be formed by a number of processes, including upwelling of volcanic magma, extrusion of lava, and erosion by water and glaciers. I'm guessing that one of these is probably the cause. Then again, I'm no expert of the area and I do not know for sure. But it's likely.
