Just make sure to back it up with iTunes beforehand in case anything goes wrong and for best results you might restore it to factory settings before jail breaking if it was updated via an OTA update. Other than that there's nothing really to know, just download and run the program and enjoy the jailbreak.

If you are using TaiG make sure to uncheck the bottom box before clicking the green jailbreak button. Also refrain from touching anything on your iPad when the jailbreak is in progress. After the jailbreak is successful remember to go into cydia and reload the page for upgrades. Other than that have fun with the jailbreak! (I would recommend TaiG to due the jailbreak on)

Be sure to disable find my ipad before using taig.
Also never use out dated or unsupported tweaks.
Everything else the others above me said also.
especially the no OTA update part.

If it's your first time jailbreaking something just make sure you follow the instructions and just don't touch anything while it's jailbreaking and you'll be good
