I'm assuming you're going with either my build or Alexyy's from your original post? You should specify what socket you're using(LGA1150) and whether you're using a Haswell or Haswell Refresh CPU since we'd need to know that to suggest a compatible motherboard. Regardless, motherboards make little to no difference to performance so any compatible motherboard will be fine. No need to spend $130, grab any H97 chipset board that you like the look of and you'll be good to go.

What CPU do you have?
unfortunately, we here at TTG do not possess the power of mind reading.

unfortunately, we here at TTG do not possess the power of telekinesis.

Pretty sure it's either a Xeon or 4690 he's getting. He has another topic where myself and Alexyy offered him builds, not sure which he decided on but we did both include motherboards within his budget.

OP-If you're going with the build Alexxy suggested, the 4690 is Haswell Refresh meaning you need an Intel 9 series board, such as H97 or Z97. However, the older Intel 8 series will work, with a BIOS update, such as H81, B85, H87 and Z87. You would need to ask whoever you purchase the motherboard from to update BIOS for you but they may be unable to do so, or charge you for it so you're better getting a 9 series board. Since you're not going to be overclocking, a Z series motherboard is most likely pointless for you so any H97 chipset motherboard will do perfectly fine.

If you go with the build I suggested, you'll have a Xeon which I suggested since it is compatible with all LGA1150 motherboards and has hyperthreading, which the i5 doesn't. The Xeon will work with both the 8 and 9 series so you will have no issue with compatibility. Any LGA1150 motherboard would do.

If you want to add a 2nd GPU in SLI in the future, you'll need a compatible Z series motherboard. If you want an m.2 slot, then you'll need a Z97 motherboard. Other than that, just grab a H97 with 4 RAM slots and you're good to go really. Oh, and I'm not sure if you could even get 2x980's in the Node 804. If you can, it will be a tight squeeze.

Can you tell us what you've decided on? Will you be looking to SLI/Xfire in the future? If so, which?
