First things first i want to build a gaming pc for $400 but have no idea where to start!
I have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Can someone please help me or send me in the right direction?

$400 after rebates. If you have to be within budget before rebates, drop the SSD for now and add it later on. Or you could keep the SSD and drop 4GB RAM, add another 4GB RAM later on.

Get your OS for free. It's going to waste a large portion of your budget if you buy one, and for your budget, that wouldn't be smart.
