Try picking a role that you enjoy/are pretty good at and main. When you decide go to twitch and look for pro's that main that role that stream eg.,

Top: Dyrus
Mid: Bjergsen, Hai
Jungle: Nightblue3, Meteoes, TheOddOne
Support: Lustboy (doesn't stream that much)
AD Carry(My Main): Gosu, qtpie, Geranimo, Sneaky, Doublelift, WildTurtl

(I don't recommend maining support until you're high gold)

You can go look up guides and what not on how to improve your skill, pro players will say go to this website because it teaches you how to get better. But those alone wont get you better, the true way to get better is by playing ranked every waking hour you can, and while you play ranked try to get better with every game you play. if you do something stupid one game dont do it next game, if something works well remember it what you did. Also you gotta remember your team is your #1 priority, if there is a team fight you should do your best to be there, always try to give your team the advantage, on the other hand, if your ally is running away from someone and you also might die if you try to help, dont help. deaths are the worst things you can have in league of legends, yes, sometimes you might be able to make a 1 for 1 trade, but most the time it is not worth, instead always try to be safe and use your spells (or auto attacks)on the enemies(unless you are someone who needs to engage the fight), this is why, picture you going in and getting a 1 for 1 trade, nice job! right?, well maybe not, if you were playing safe and using your spells (or auto attacking) you could have dealt more damage over time, potentially even double or triple the amount you would have dealt in the 1 for 1, you might not get a kill but if your doing damage over an extended period of time it is worth not getting a kill. if your trying to get better 1 for 1's are a terrible thing to do. if you are the person who needs to engage the fight in a 5v5 make sure your whole team is there, unless you run into a situation where the enemy only has two players there and you have 3+ players you can also go in, again, make sure the odds are in your favor when you fight in any situation (or at least try to make them be). another big thing i see low level players do all the time is not respect the the health/mana ratio that you need to fight in a team fight, if you can, try to fight at full health/mana, but in some situations you dont have time to go back to base and do that, when you fight try to make sure you have at least half health and at least 3/8's mana, this is because if you are are going into a team fight with lets say 500 health imagine how hast you will die, and if you die you are just putting you and your entire team further behind. Same foes with the mana, if you have only enough mana to only cast 5 spells you arnt gonna be that helpful, because once you cast the 5 spells you are an open target and there is nothing you can do to defend yourself or nothing you can do to benefit your team, so before a team fight just do a quick health/mana evaluation and if you are lacking in either go ahead and base. lets talk about gold, i also see low level players do this, what happens is you get a kill in lane and you didnt lose any health or any mana so you dont go back, then it happens again and you still have alot of mana/health, but now your opponent is coming back to lane with many items on them and have the edge, the person you just killed is now way stronger than you but all you remember is how easy he was to kill the first two times(or one time), so you go in on him to get another kill and he kills you because you did not know he did that much damage, leaving you not as far ahead and him closer to getting stronger than you. What should of happened was when you killed him the second(or first time) you should of gone back because you now have more gold then he has and can buy more items than he can making you further ahead and making him even further behind, once you kill your enemy you can push the wave as fast as you can before he respawns, and remember, a big stack of gold in you inventory does not make you stronger, the items you buy is what makes you strong so make sure to spend it when you have it. also if you kill your enemy and you you have good health/mana and dont have enough money to buy anything just keep farming and play safe. always play safe and play to get better. last thing is pretty much what every one else say, have fun, play to improve(not win), main a role(id recommend mid or jungle because in higher elos they provide things other lanes dont), play your favorite champions(try to see what works best with them and how play them to their full potential), and look up guides and videos that will teach/help you learn more about whats good and bad in League of Legends.

hope this helped a little

You kind of said it yourself, you've only played for 6 months, keep playing, find a role that you feel comfortable with, don't stick to it though, learn all the roles! And have patience, you will get better, you will get a higher rank, but it takes time!

Doing well in a game of League is based entirely off of how well you do your role.

There is 4 main roles. Laners, Junglers, AD Carries and Supports. These are self explanatory.

If you're a laner, focus creep score more than the enemy champion for a while, CS is everything in lane. If you're a jungle, get your jungle timing down so you don't spend a lot of time not killing monsters. If you're AD Carry, POKE POKE POKE. You need to punish their ADC to not let them get that much CS. And if you're a support, well, support god damn it. Get grabs on their ADC, stuns etc. You need to punish their ADC as much as your ADC is, if not more.

Remember, number 1 rule of League is Creep Score > Kills.

15 CS = 1 kill, remember that.

Most of the time I'd prioritize cs in front of poking as an ADC, as it is so important for you, as long as you are ahead with cs, it doesn't make that much of a difference, well, depending on your opponents stats.

But IMO cs>poke
