Hi TTG, So I got my system built and planned on upgrading from my corsair H60 at some point. I was thinking a high end air cooler but now i'm thinking a custom water loop . I am thinking 160-170max. Just got a couple of questions:
1. How would i mount a cylinder type reservoir? I'm using a H440 with no drive bays and would like to avoid drilling when possible.
2. What do you think of the kits with everything you need there? I can get a 240mm / 360mm kit with my budget.

Full list of specs?
You can do watercooling on the cheap if you plan a head.
A simple CPU loop will set you back around 100GBP which then you can upgrade to accommodate a GPU too.
Normally, the res will sit to the right of the motherboard and is always above the pump! You dont want the pump to run dry.
Personally, doing a custom loop is a fun project but shouldn't be done if you want it for shear performance. You can get better for the money.

Specs:
i5 4690K
MSI Z97 GD65 - Which is being returned as faulty for the second time to get a ASUS VII Ranger or Hero or anything else which is Z97 around the price point with red and black with good specs
256GB Crucial MX100 SSD
500GB HDD - soon upgrade
Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming Edition
red and black NZXT H440
Corsair Vengence 2400Mhz DDR3 RAM
EVGA NEX650G 650W Gold modualr psu
Couple of NZXT fans and a corsair fan
100 sounds much better than what i've been looking at. I'm not to sure about putting the graphics card in until the blocks come down a lot and if I'm voiding warranty.
That sounds like a good position in my case actually ive got a lot of room between the front fans and the GPU / motherboard.
Yeah thats why i'm sorta debating it. But I would like the project and well they look awesome!
Thanks, +Rep

When I was looking at a custom loop, I was debating to put it in a H440. TBH, there isnt as much room as it first seems.
You are limited to the thickness of the top rad [30mm] and its not great airflow. But if you have it as exhaust, you should be fine.
You can fit a massive [monsta] rad at the front however which will cool both the CPU and GPU nicely. However, IMO, it looks tacky.

Yep what i'm thinking now, It was this or the Corsair 540 but aprart from that its good.
Yeah i'm not sure about where things will go if I am to put it in the front or the top but i have saw the monsta rad and yes its not asthetically pleasing but I could hide it in the front since I have so much space.
Have you got any opinions on brands? It seems EK has good reviews and is well known. I'm on JaysTwoCents forum as well and the picture of the guy with his H440 looks good with the big res

But your limiting the airflow that your getting to your case.
Personally, Id stick with a cheap AIO cooler for now and upgrade later on.

I was in a similar situation. I also have an H440 and was considering installing a custom loop. Maintenance is the main reason I don't want to. I'm waiting until I upgrade my rig, and then I will re-consider installing a custom loop. I think you should do it, as long as it isn't for performance gains.

Thanks i've had a read. I've found this thread on Linus forums with others who have nice watercooled builds. I'm going to go with a couple of the ideas from there. I did consider returning my case for Air 240 but I found that, only problem being I may have to drill. I'm also unsure how I would go about draining it, I know who to but I wouldnt have a bleed port.
