Hi two days ago i was selling a iphone 4s on gumtree for 140 and i get a message of a guy called Maxwell Philips and he offers me the 140 and a extra 50 to send it abroad with tracking and bubble wrap ( and that understandable ) so i said sure why not, 10 minuets later i recived a email from "payPal" and every thing was correct, it seemed okey, untill i noticed it was send by 'paypal team' but if you sell on paypal you should know the email is from services @ paypal.com so that seemed strange so i inspected it a little more and the hyperlinks that was in the email didn't work and that it was just a picture, 10 miniuts later i recive a email from 'Maxwell Phillips' saying to post the item and that paypal is holding the money safe and that they will give it me when the item is send and the tracking number is sent to the paypal team and i know it don't work like that so i contacted the real paypal and sent them the email to check, paypal replie and its 100% fake i would of lost the phone ans never got it back if it was posted.

If your wondering why im telling you this is because a lot of people will fall for it and loose there items if you ever selling anything straight through gumtree you will get a reservation ID number get it checked ASAP better safe then sorry Right.

The Guys email name is Maxwell Phillips if you see that name dont replie.

Thanks for your time.

It's really sad how people do this to others, but he gave you his address which is real I assume so if you were to send it off you could get something done to him.

Good of you to give the heads up man

I sold a PS4, Two Pads, BF4,Fifa,Call of duty & a headset on gumtree

I met the guy in person and thought it was a genuine transaction, after we had sorted out the money which I counted and seemed fine

two minutes later after he had left and vanished, I began to check the money again and all the 20's appeared to be fake

True story, around 400-500 worth of goods gone, My own fault for not properly checking, Police got involved and did nothing, neither did gumtree

Well alot of people in my family
got scammed on that site,
thats what scumtree is known for,
Next time you want to sell go on eBay.
Just in the mean time get this
'Maxwell Phillips' suspended,
So he doesnt be delinquent again.
