I am looking at a Intel Xeon E3-1270 3.40GHz 8M Quad Core SR00N on eBay and wondering how much I should be paying for it? Can anyone help me

Which motherboard will you be putting it in? If that model is not followed by V then a number then it is quite an old part.

E3-1270's are about $350 new. 1270 V2's are around $325 and a 1270 V3 will set you back $320-$330 or so. Keep in mind, the V1's are LGA 1155, as are the V2's. V1 s Sandy Bridge and V2 is Ivy Bridge(I think). The 1270 V3 is Haswell, so LGA 1150. Just make sure you have a compatible motherboard before buying.
