Near death experience

About two years ago I was in a tiny car with my two mates. One was in the back, one was driving, and I was in the front seat. It was dark, but I saw headlights pull out into our lane and it was clear that "the headlights" were coming at us straight on at an extremely high speed. I pretty much "knew" that there was no way I would live. Within seconds (or less) we were hit. I don't remember being hit. I just remember believing I was certain to die and being very angry and disgusted at this drunk who was headed towards us. This car was so small that my mates arm and my arm were only inches away from the other's. Luckily we were all emerged from the wreckage okay with minor injuries such as a broken arm and a fractured wrist.

What did I learn (good or bad) from this? I came away from the experience no longer innocently believing "it won't happen to me". I was immediately thrown from being young and kind of carefree into being someone who saw life as very short and time as very, very precious. I learned that thinking I would be dead in seconds wasn't all that bad. I had been calm. I learned, too, that in the face of believing someone was about to kill me, I was angry rather than afraid. I came away from the experience not having a real sense of humour when it comes to drunk driving and speeding drivers.

If you wish, feel free to share any crazy or near death experiences of your own.

Woah,

I was 8 years old, I was proving myself to my parents that I was the 'real deal'. I popped a wheely into a busy intersection and almost died. I went home and my homies tatted my back saying 'Real Rebel'. Permanant marker kept it on for days.

Everyone experiences a life altering incident once in their life. Glad you're okay.

Just out of curiosity, did you break your 'good arm'

I was seconds from death once.
As a youngster it was winter and we were down by the river Tees, close to where I live.
A certain area always froze over and was normally strong enough to hold your weight and others.
I say normally because I forgot we had all grown since the winter before.
I went to run and slide across and it cracked and dropped me in the river.
That's all I remember.
Next thing im in a hospital wrapped in all kinds of shit with beeps everywhere and my mother looking pissed, yet relieved.
Turns out I fell and cracked my head on the ice, knocking me out cold.
The other lads saw me go under and could do nothing but watch me get dragged by the current.
They caught me on the bend and dragged me ashore.
This was before mobile phones were a common thing, so one had to run to a nearby house and call for help.
The other guys administered CPR and did everything they could to see I was warming up.
My lungs were still full of water and my heart rate had dropped massively to the point they nearly stopped as they thought I was dead.
One guy continued to beat the shit out of my chest and I coughed up a ton of water.
Paramedics arrived and did what they do.

I didn't let this create fear in me.
I don't fear rivers.
I don't fear water.
I don't fear death.
I respect them.

What do I fear? I fear not getting to live life, I fear others may end theirs by making my mistakes.
I now am a fully qualified lifeguard, I can administer first aid. I walk my dog along the rivers in my local area around time that they will be busy, just in case.
And next year, I start my training to become a fully qualified Paramedic.

This was 17 years ago!
