I'd say promote when you have a video with actual content on. I'll check out your channel once your first main video is out. Hope it all goes well.

I think your intro is a great start!
Try and brand your channel in an eye catching, yet warm color way. A lot of graphic designers are struggling to promote themselves, so try and take advantage of that and snag yourself a free professional looking banner! Also, if you have any of the Adobe editing programs, there are a ton of free and excellent looking intro and outtro templates. Have fun with your content!
