I got my phone back from repair today, and it was jailbroken so I thought i'd clean it out and reset it all. So I did that and now when I plug it in it is the 'plug into itunes icon' which I do, then I press restore iphone and it does that then goes to the apple logo and then says 'failed' and goes back into the plug into itunes

Put it into DFU mode and do a "Shift, Restore" and select the downloaded .IPSW.

That usually always works.
