Have you updated your drivers for the 970?

I upgraded from a Lightning R7970 (Owing to clock speeds, slightly faster than a 280x I believe)
To a meaty-clocked '980.
The performance boost is significant enough to justify the upgrade IMHO
Depends on the games you're playing, but I'd say it was a worthy investment.

Depends on what type of 970 you got. One of them has vram of only 3.5 even though it says 4.. It was worth the upgrade though ;p

No, they all have 4gb of vram the last 0.5 is just slower than the rest of the memory. As far as I know all 970's are affected by this not any one particular model.

Well, that's not true.
OP-The 970 is a more powerful GPU than the 280x, yes. You shouldn't be getting less FPS, make sure you have all the latest drivers and no bottleneck elsewhere in the system.

i recently upgraded my pc with a 970 gtx and i can say its either you haven't updated the gpus drivers or something like your cpu is affecting it but still you shouldn't get lower fps then your last card
