Have you got a lot in your downloads folder?
Boot into safe mode and clear your downloads folder.
Restart and see what happens.

So when you boot into safe mode, it freezes instantly or when you open your downloads?

Have you experienced any blue screens? If so I can talk you threw getting the mini-dumps and help diagnose any issues you may be having.
It could be software related e.g. malware/virus.
Or
It could be hardware related, e.g. faulty memory.
My advice is to always go for a clean re-install of the entire OS as this normally solves and software related issues.
