Hey,

At the moment my current motherboard is a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P and my current processor is an AMD FX 4300.

Over the next few months I am going to be upgrading my PC and have a question that needs to be answered...

If I buy the AMD FX 9590 processor (Which the socket is AM3+, the same as my current processor), would I be able to just swap out my old AM3+ CPU and replace it with the new one?

I wouldn't suggest using a 9590 with a board with relatively low-end power delivery like the DS3P. It's a 4+1 VRM. The 8320 would be a more suitable upgrade for half the price.

Ok thanks for the reply.

Which motherboard would you suggest I get to go in hand with the AMD FX 9590?

If you're going to be replacing the board as well, you would be better off with an i5.

I would personally keep the board you have and just get the 8320. That's the cheapest and easiest option and performance will still be very good. Overclock it and it will be even better and make up for AMD's relatively low per-core performance.

I do prefer AMD so I'd rather go with a good processor as I'm not going to be upgrading after that for a while now.

I'm thinking of getting the better AMD FX 9690 and a new motherboard to go with that.

9590 is a waste of money, but if you insist buy it. Also, the FX processors are not power efficient what so ever.

It depends on what you are doing. Most i5 are better than AMD for gaming, but for larger workloads like computations, AMD is actually better up to a certain pricing.

What r00t said^

If you cant afford heating in your house the get the AMD 9590 it will keep your house nice and warm.

In all seriousness whats your budget and currency?
What are you using the PC for?
Whats the rest of your specs?
Will need the case and make & model of your powersupply too as well.

We can help provide the best upgrade for your price which suits your needs best.

..Also are you wanting to overclock?
