It will mention on your xbox. I believe it starts at a week & doubles each offence (Depending on what they catch you doing)

first ban: 1 week
second ban: 2 weeks
third: 1 month

Then I believe they ban your account permanently. I don't believe there is anyway around it besides making/playing on another account for the time being.

No it does not say how long for this is my first ban in the email it was through cheating think iv learnt my lesson I have to laugh or I feel like crying but ow well lesson learnt my own fault

Just sign into the account as normal and it should say you have been banned till... then it gives you a date. This happened to me and I was banned for two weeks. I only got unbanned yesterday
