I live with my Mum, Dad and two brothers. We are currently having an extension being built on our house which is about halfway done. The builder we have a contract with has turned out to be on the dodgy side, first he took 10,000 of our budget to the side and claimed we still owed him that 10 thousand and still hasn't admitted to what he stole it for. He has been leeching money from his mother and she was contemplating selling her home to pay for his **** ups.
It was only the other day that I found out that not only is does he try and steal money, but also completely disregarded my family's safety. We were having a new boiler fitted, here is a diagram of the insides of one:

Boilers produce flue gases such as Carbon Monoxide and other toxic and poisonous gases which have regulations and legal requirements in place to properly vent and dispose of these harmful toxins. It turns out that our builder made a shitty cardboard pipe (pieces of cardboard stuck together) to guide the gases out of our roof. One day it started raining, so the tube obviously collapsed, spewing carbon monoxide fumes into our house. The only reason I am alive to this day is because it happened in the daytime where it was noticed and dealt with. If this was to happen later on into the night, My whole family would be dead.
This builder is being taken to court and faces up to 5 years in prison and a 10,000 fine. What do you think of this?
EDIT 31/03/15
So a few days ago we found out that during the build we should have had building inspectors round to check to make sure everything is done correctly, and if safe. The builder who screwed us over NEVER arranged for these inspectors to visit, my mum confronted him about that and he said he had made contact but they had never replied. So she contacted the inspectors and they shown that they had no contact from the builder whatsoever. Turns out we need to have windows put in two of the rooms that are finished for safety reasons, so part of the walls will need to be knocked down and the room will need to be redecorated.
EDIT 31/04/15
It now turns out that the builder did the underfloor heating wrong, now the whole kitchen (which is finished now) and every last tile in my house has to be stripped out. We will have to move elsewhere for 4+ months. I can't promise that if I see the builder I won't stab him.

This man deserves the punishment. He should have taken measures to make sure the customers, your family, should be safe. His disregard for safety could have led to the deaths of multiple people. Also, if he is getting paid to use cheap cardboard as a substitute for real pipes, then he does not deserve to get paid at all.

That's the thing that pisses me off, he knew exactly what he was doing but did what he did to cover up the money that he'd stolen, even if it meant risking our lives.
