Okay, so obviously by the title you all know this is about The Catcher in the Rye. I read the book for my English class, and just wanted to know a few things from you all.

If you've never read the book, I highly recommend it. I loved it. I read it in about 3 days, just couldn't put it down.

*Before you start reading this (at school) please ask a teacher/administrator/principal if you are allowed to read it in school. It is a booked that is banned from hundreds, probably thousands of schools across the country. You have been warned*

My Questions -

Have you read The Catcher in the Rye, if you haven't have you heard of it?
What did you like about the book?
What did you dislike about the book?

To your knowledge, does your school ban the teaching / reading of The Catcher in the Rye?
If your school does, have you read it outside of school?

If you have read the book, than you obviously know what it is about. I honestly don't think the book is that bad, other than the fact that it mentions a prostitute like twice, and Holden's language, But I mean, I hear worse language walking through the Freshman hallways at school.

What are your overall opinions on the book? Should it be banned by as many schools as it is? The author, J. D. Salinger obviously never meant for it to be, this was his first and only novel. He wrote short stories for magazines, but this one novel really did make him a famous man.

I've heard references to the book but I have not read it myself. Would you mind telling me what it's about? I'd be interested in reading a good book.

I don't think my this book are banned in my school so I should be okay.

Just downloaded a PDF on my phone. It looks promising. Will update after I read a few chapters.

Sounds Interesting, during a free period of mine I might go check it out at my schools local library and see what all the controversy is all about. Hell, I don't see why they wouldn't have it, they have copies of Mein Kamph by Adolf Hitler.

We were just assigned this book, so far i like it. The short chapters sometimes make me laugh with chapter 5 being like 3 pages.

I should really get round to reading it. It's one of a few classics (along with To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, etc.) that I haven't had chance to read. I love a good book so once I finish the books I'm reading now, I might give it a go.

Have you read The Catcher in the Rye, if you haven't have you heard of it?

Yes I've read it.

What did you like about the book?

I liked that the book kind of has a theme of a real world kid going through daily life problems and how he is choosing his personal life over his education. It also goes to show he has a lot of insecurities about himself and others. Like when he orders the stripper and once she gets there he just wants to talk and her pimp hits him and takes more money. I believe that it shows that if you let your own conscious completely take over it can literally drive you crazy

What did you dislike about the book?

I didn't like the abrupt ending. Just telling the readers that he plans to go back to school in the fall is kind of a rip off. I was expecting some information on whether he gave in and took pheobe with him, what happened to her, and how he ultimately ended up where he is.

To your knowledge, does your school ban the teaching / reading of The Catcher in the Rye?

The high school i've graduated from has not banned the book. It is actually a requirement for seniors in AP English to read.

If your school does, have you read it outside of school?

I read it in school so no I haven't read it outside of school.
