That's what people do now they just spit out information they have heard or just assume to be true even though they have no idea what they are talking about

We get that all the time in the PC sections. It really does bug the regulars, including me, in there. And then they spread it further. And then, if they are being real cheeky, they will go ahead explain why they are right and how we are noobs.

Like ram for example. Why does everyone think more ram = better.

I see why its annoying why people think RAM is everything.
In reality,
RAM = How much it can handle at once (I think this is right, please correct if wrong)
CPU = How fast it can process things
GPU = How fast it can display things/required to see anything at all.

Plus, to get the most out of a computer, you want to have those 3 at equal or more power together. (8 core with 8GB RAM, dont shoot for having 16GB RAM with a quad core, ever.)

Needs slighty changing.

Desktop CPU's are made by two main competitors. AMD & Intel. Both have different CPU's meaning they wont run the same.

A AMD quad core might perform less in some situations compared to an Intel CPU.

So saying it would be best to have x amount and z cores isn't really correct since the needs for more or less of x and z changes depending on the user and their situation

You can have 16GB with a quad core. For example, an Intel I7 4790k has 4 cores, but 8 threads so it can potentially use 8 cores. That would then be an alright use for 16GB since Editing would use the extra threads and RAM.

I went into nerd mode a bit there but if you need any more info and bet time reading, let me know and I can provide you with the correct knowledge.

Thank you for that, I was using information I got from my friend. But you are right.
I do know that before you build any PC, make sure not to buy any parts from different manufacturers together. like you said, AMD and Intel.
I make sure all my parts are compatible.

I am way off with some things but I am still learning.

If your interested in PC's keep on learning. Youtube is a great resource for it. PM if you want links or whatnot.

I look back at me even a year a go and think, I must have been taking something to offer someone x build [it was terrible]

Today at work I had to explain that an AV cable connection is not HD and that they need an HDMI cable to have HD quality.

Not really true. You don't need an HDMI cable for an HD display. DisplayPort and DVI cables will also offer an HD dislay. VGA is worth avoiding though since it's an analog signal, as opposed to digital, offered by HDMI, DVI and DP.
