Even though the possibility of an "Zombie" outbreak is so minuscule it's almost ludicrous, the chance of a real viral outbreak or epidemic is possible, especially with the turmoil that our world is in. I look at them both the same. When I lived in the US I always had a Disaster Plan that included a Plan of action, BOB/Go Bag (if needed), provisions, equipment and anything that I thought I would need if something happened. A while ago you could find everything you need for a good price because people wanted to get rid of everything that they bought in their preparation for Y2K, but now it's a cash cow industry. For the sake of this argument I would use the same idea in case of the mentioned Apocalypse. I made a post like this in a similar topic a while back and will copy and paste most of it here. I have added some text for this specific topic. The original post can be found here

Words to live by - Get Armed

Contact and meet up family and close friends to see who is left
Create an EVAC plan that contains (meeting points, routes and planned stops (Gas, Food and other TBD)
Pack my truck with all needed items from the house
Close the house up
Move to the meeting point
Move to some family property that is remote with plenty of game, fishing, water, and has a house built with plenty of trees and space to build more structures.
Survive

I say all of that hoping that I'm not one of the first victims that gets bitten, if that happens, I'm coming after all of you.

Go Bag
Weapons (assault, sidearm, shotgun and possibly a long range rifle)....basically everything that you own
Hunting tools
Ammo (ALL OF IT)
Armor
Helmet
AX/Tomahawk/Hooligan Tool
Multi-tool and knife
Utility clothes
Boots
Water
Water purification equipment
Food for 1 week+
Flashlights
Batteries for all equipment
Local Maps with major locations highlighted (hospitals, police, stores - food, hardware, surplus, gun...etc and an idea of where any hardened locations are that you can defend or a remote place where you can go)
GPS
Emergency radio
Bio Hazard - protective suit, mask with spare filters and gloves
Extra protective suits a
Spare burner phone with batteries with the following numbers (CDC, Local FEMA, police and hospital) along with personal numbers
Spare car battery
Medical Kit (TRAUMA and General)
CB Radio
Currency + Gold, Silver and stones
TP - You would be surprised at how important it is

Anything else that you have room for - Household goods

This has been discussed before. I agree, people have no idea what is in store for them if something happens. Most people are ill-prepared and even panic and the slightest disruption in their daily routine or life. A few examples are, and I am not saying that these events are minor, Katrina, the super-storm in NY and NJ a few years ago, any power outages......etc. People do not know how to deal with most things. Once the power goes out they loose their minds. Look at how many people freak out when Twitter goes down for an hour, now think about those people when the world starts falling apart. Below are some skills that I believe people would need to survive a "Zombie Apocalypse".

There is a ton of things to consider
The end of
Electricity
Refrigeration
Every single processed food that you have ever eaten (except Twinkies Very Happy and yes they are making a comeback)
Social Services (Fire, EMT, Police...etc)
Law and order
Everything that you know to be normal

To survive you will need to know either a basic or (Hopefully) an advanced understanding of
Hunting
Trapping
Fishing
Field Dressing animals and tanning hides
Farming (or at least gardening and everything that goes with it)
Curing meat
Canning
Field medicine (There are no more hospitals, emergency services, antibiotics....etc)
Weapon handling
Ammunition reloading
Tool manufacturing (blacksmith)
Carpentry (for your house and other structures)
Water Purification
Sewing
Field hygiene (remember that most of the plumbing will be out)
Animal husbandry (You will need cows, pigs, chickens, goats and horses)
Candle making
Forestry (You will have to cut down trees for fuel and for your house and other structures)
Land Navigation

That is just a short list of what will cease and what skills you would need to develop. You also need to remember that you would have to pull the trigger on the majority of the population or at least handle a weapon to defend yourself.

Just walk through a normal day right now and remember that EVERYTHING will be different.
