I used to play with a lot of people, but now I choose to play solo because I can't start up a game with friends usually without having to AFK or leave randomly. I got kids, so I usually game very early, or late at night. I'm trying to stick with one game right now, Destiny. I'm just forcing myself into the game, I like shooters, but I just don't feel like gaming in general. Kind of a bummer.

Your probably around my age. I'm in the same boat but the difference is we remember all of the good quality games.

Games now are terrible and lack innovation. They all are multiplayer as well, which takes away from single player usually.

Think about the following games in terms of quality:
Jade empire
Star wars Kotor
Mass effect
Fallout
Star wars battlefront
Halo 1
Fable
Diablo 1 & 2
StarCraft
Warcraft 1-3
Etc

Now we have
Call of duty
Battlefield
Destiny
Etc

Games don't change as much as they used to

Nothing about nostalgia. They were innovative in their previous time. Considering they are all not past games, I don't think this even qualifies.

The Witcher games I haven't personally played enough to make a statement. Buying Witcher 3 though

Dark Souls was innovative. I forgot about that one, but that also not fairly new.

Dragon Age is another series I forgot, but granted Bioware is one of my favorite developers. Dragon Age 2 was the only let down.

Diablo 3 wasn't my favorite. But granted, it did change the series

Infinite I never got to play. BioShock one was great, two didn't really do a lot, but was good.

MGS V, never got to play. But mgs was a Pretty good series regardless.

Either way, the correlation is that a lot more risks were taken and innovations made in the past. Now games are very similar and focus on known to sell elements.
