One tip that I've discovered through my design years is don't use black/darkness to fill or cover up.
There are a few deciding factors between Alright->Good->Excellent (and everywhere in between) a lot of which are as follows:
You want to take everything into consideration when making a manipulation.
Though what you are doing to the image may not be real or even possible (surreal),
it still has to give the illusion that it could be real.
Keep it up and for your 1st step in trying to progress, practice lighting.
Add a single source and pretend that is the only light in the image,
then match all the elements to share the light.
And as always,
PM me for help and assistance.

- Photo Realism
- Proper Surrealism
