I am buying a pc soon and i am trying to get the most of my money and i found an old computer from early 2000's maybe even late 90s in my basement and i took the CD drive out of it and i am wondering if it will be able to work for just downloading windows 8.1 to my new computer here are the pictures

Yes but you would need to buy a adapter so you can connect it to a sata port.

Would be easier to just buy a cheap drive

It's possible but not worth doing but check the motherboard as some older ones 4~5 years ago occasionally included one.

Op just install Windows 8 via USB
