He suggested the amd cpu because eventually i could upgrade to a six or even eight vore cpu if needed and that a quad core is better to start off with

well it's not worth it
he should know that AMD have higher core count, but weaker performing cores than Intel
basically, a quad core i5 will poop on the 6300
and a quad core HT i7/Xeon will poop on an 8320+
then Xeon's, 4/6/8/10/12/14/16 core options available.
NO POINT in going AMD anymore unless for a budget APU build.

No. AM3+ is a dead socket. The i3 I suggested is better than that FX-4300. You can upgrade to an i7/Xeon at any point if you go with an i3 rig, and they out-perform the AM3+ competitor, by a lot.

Yes, that's why we said it. You don't have to upgrade to an i5. Xeon upgrade wouldn't cost too much more. You might not need to upgrade at all from an i3.

A xeon is the same as an i7 sort of
just, it doesn't have IGPU
and it runs a lot more efficient, i.e. it uses less power. Also, they can't be overclocked.

No, it's not. People have hit 4.8GHz with G3258's before, but doesn't mean you will, especially with budget cooler. Regardless, it's a dual core, so no. Dual cores are dying and some new games won't work with a dual core. GTA V is likely to be the same. i3 is better anyway. Wouldn't be using a single stick of RAM, grab two 4GB modules for dual channel.
