Hey I'm looking to buy a car that is popular for custimizing but i dont know which one to get. I was thinking at a 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback or a 1996 Honda Accord.

The cars you listed are indeed great cars for that purpose, however if it were up to me I would probably chose maybe a 240SX or a silvia or something.
it really depends on your budget, and what exactly you want to do to it? Do you wish to take it to track/drift days? Do you want to build it for appearance?
No offence to Honda enthusiasts, but Civics suck, the only decent Honda is probably the integra.

Stock, stock, stock, keep the damn vehicles stock. I thought customizing was cool too so I bought a truck for 5k, put another 5k into aftermarket items, and ANOTHER 5k in repairs, more than 3k of which is due to the aftermarket items. I now have 15k in a truck that isn't worth 6k. Keep your vehicle stock, keep your money in the bank buy a house and customize that. Any money you put into your car you will not get back.
