I got the older CPU and it booted up with that, now the problem is that when I do update my bios (which i'm still not sure if did it correctly) and I install the better CPU it still wont boot?

If you're unsuer if you updated the BIOS, you probably didn't. Go to the drivers page for your specific motherboard and download it's latest BIOS. Move the file to the main part of a USB. You'll download a rar file with a .CAP file inside most likely. The .CAP should in the main part of your USB, not the rar. Boot into your BIOS and I'm not sure what you do on your specific motherboard but it will most likely be fairly straight forward or their may be a video on YouTube to help. If it's booting alright with a Haswell CPU, and then not doing so with your Haswell refresh chip, it just seems like you haven't updated the BIOS.

To check if you have updated the bios simply with the chip thats working load into the bios and have a look round and it should say the bios version along with the date.

I tried to update it with the desktop update utility for my motherboard, then when I restart & go into the bios, it tells me it's up to date with the latest bios on the website. I replace the CPU with my haswell refresh & it still won't boot.

I will try what Sanctyy suggested later today.

That's kind of weird. Stick in the Haswell chip, clear the CMOS and then update to the latest BIOS again, and see if that does anything.

Could just be a bad chip tbh. Try what sanctyy said and if no hope then contact the retailer you got it from.

So would the top file be the latest bios update?

If so I have tried updating it with both the desktop application that they offer & by flashing with a USB, both have not solved my problem with the better CPU.

Pretty convinced it's just a bad CPU now.
