being from England, this really pulls at my strings and i have no idea why..
its supposed to be a compliment but is literally the most stupidest thing ever..

"i love the British accent its the best!!"

Just Shutup. Ive grabbed a few online which have some of the strongest sounding dialects..

* Cockney (East London)
* Regular London accent
* Brummy (Birmingham)
* Yorkshire
* Mancunian (Manchester)
* Geordie (Newcastle)
* Scouse (Liverpool)
* Glaswegian (Glasgow)
* Edinburgh
* West Country
* Belfast
* Welsh

theres is literally SO many accents in "Britain" that you just sound stupid if you say this. All the people sound very Different..its like saying "American Accent" its ridiculous. i assume by "British Accent" people are referring to the Cockney Accent as its the most sterotypical even though a small area of London uses it...so not sure where that comes from, also while im on it that crappy "British Accent" they use usually on American TV which is posh etc..Queens English. No-one speaks like that..just stop. before you embarrass yourself.

When people say they love the British accent, 90% of the time they are referring to the well spoken British accent. Places like Chelsea and surround areas? Or even Brighton. Although there are lots of accents in the UK I suppose they are just referring to the posh one.

Lots of people in the UK speak in a posh manner, just not the 14 year old kid wearing black track suit smoking cigarette.

Out of that list I'd have to say Belfast is the best.
It's not too sharp, like Southern Irish, around Dublin, and you can understand it without it being too monotone.

I agree though, it doesn't really anger me when people say it, but it does make me think, "Well... which one?"
I live in the North West and I could drive an hour down the road and find people who speak with a different accent to me.

But then again, I also see this with the 'American accent.'
I don't know any specific ones, but there are obviously lots of different accents in America too.
The stereotypical New York accent, how Texans speak, and how Californians speak would be just a few examples.

I'm from Leicester, and I was told I sound posh. Somehow, I doubt it though.

People who say that they love British accents have only probably heard a London accent, and there are some accents which are really annoying, so I doubt they love them all.

Just messing obviously. I'm from Scotland myself, Paisley(just outside Glasgow) and I always get American/Canadian girls(mostly) telling me that British accents are "so hot", like nah bitch lol. Where I live is full of junkies and alcoholics with 3 teeth total, no idea how that can sound appealing to anyone.
