I am currently working on my first build with a budget of $1800 USD. I have most of the parts chosen already but I'd like some input from others. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] I am debating between a GTX 970 and GTX 980 and possibly switching the CPU to an i7. I am going to be using this build for gaming. I have two monitors, one is a 1440p monitor and I'm going to be picking up a 1080p one too. I plan to overclock as well. I also need a PSU and Case. I am thinking about getting [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] to match the blue/black theme I have going on.

You should get 970 over the 980. There is not enough performance gain between them to justify the price difference. Since you want to game at 1440p you should get a second 970 for sli however a single 970 is powerful enough.

Stick with the i5. I wouldnt pay an extra $100 for the i7.

The case is a good choice.

The 16gb is unnecessary for gaming, if its not to late just get 2x4gb.

What psu you thinking of getting?

I was thinking something like this [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
850W should be enough if I decide to grab a second 970.

The 970's are very power efficient a 750w would easily run SLI 970's with your build.

You could probably manage SLI 970s on a 620-650W PSU but I don't like to recommend any less than a 750W PSU, just for safety. The EVGA G2 units are amazing. I'm running my SLI 970s on a 750G2. I actually have a similar build to the one Stoned suggested, so +1 for that but ew to the H100i, better coolers for a similar price or much better coolers for not too much more expensive.

A few changes;

2.5TB of storage should be more than enough. No need to wste $20 on RAM when these will match the black/blue theme anyway. 750W will do. Better cooler. If you're not going to be making use of the i7, an i5 would probably make more sense.

Ok cool thanks for the input. I think I'm going to stick with the i5 because I'll mostly be gaming. As for the cooler, I'm looking into either the Swiftech H220-X or the H110i that you recommended.

Grab a 4690k instead then, you'll be fine. H110i GT is a great cooler and will fit in the H440 fairly easily. It's a similar size to the Kraken X61 and my X61 was pretty easy to get in to my H440.

Would you recommend the Kraken X61 or should I stick with the H110i? I've heard mixed reviews about both.
