I have one of the original xbox 360s and the disk drive dosent work, its not even reading that there is a disk inside at all. it was also sticking so i took it apart and fixed that which seems to be okay now.
i can buy a replacement drive pretty cheap which i was considering doing but have no clue how to transfer the drive key over.
i have also heard that you can just replace the laser or motor and not have to edit the key on the board at all
so my main question is that will it be possible to transfer the motherboard from my broken drive into a new one of the same model that i will buy, without editing the key?
if so will it just be easier to replace the motor/laser and is the whole process difficult at all?
any help will be appreciated
thanks Alfie

you can buy a new drive and exchange the dvd pcb (the board that carrys your dvd key) inside the dvd drive.
its only a few wires that hold the board in you can just put the old board in the new drive and your good to go.
If you need a drive pm me I also offer cheap repairs for this.

Thanks for your help, i have decided to just buy a new laser and see it that works, its a bit cheaper than the whole drive and not too hard to fit after i have de-soldered the anti-static point, it might be the motors but this is worth a try first
