Right now I have a renault clio 1.2 and am looking for a new car in August this year or next

(I am 18 in the U.K.)

I'm thinking of either getting a vw polo 1.4 this year or next year in getting an bmw 118 coupe
I cannot afford insurance this year (it's like £3500)

Looking for like a 10 plate + for reliablity

I need fairly good mpg because of my job , can anyone if they've owned one of these tell me what there like to drive/mpg/ pros / cons
Thanks in advance

I don't own a VW Polo, but I have a VW Jetta (usa if that matters)

It gets great mileage, don't really have any major issues with it as long as I take care of it (belts, oli, etc) However I find my self using more expensive oli, and other small stuff, and I'd imagine a major repair might be a little more pricey then a non foreign car, however I'm assuming VW is a more predominant brand in the UK

VW and BMW are both going to be very reliable whatever year. Also use a different comparison website, i was quoted £1200 on a VW Golf 1.6 at 17.
