it's nice to begin with but like everyone else your going to move over to photoshop for editing and illustrator or coral for drawing etc, adobe dominate that market of programs. I went from paint.net to gimp, then to photoshop, gimp is alot like photoshop just loads alot longer.

Just download photoshop for a 1 month trial and try it out or get it the "free way"

Gimp is a pretty good, even passed the 'beginners stage'.
Like Vehicle said, give photoshops 1 month trial a go, which ever one you feel more comfortable using, keep going!

I started on GIMP and back in the day it was far sub-par to photoshop but it taught you the ways to do things on your own rather than a few clicks or layerstyles. If you just want to dabble in it to see how it goes, then go for it but I would also get the trial of PS.

Thanks for your comment, I won't be doing anything major so gimp would probably suffice. However every tutorial on YouTube is using PS so I'll probs get the trial for that.
Cheers.

I started out with gimp and I used it for a long time, It teaches you how to do everything a much longer way which is helpful in the end as it allows you to go through that process and do other things in programs like photoshop.
Using gimp then moving to photoshop will be weird for a little while but you get used to it really quickly and will learn to use the extra features easily.
