So at the moment i have a good but poo "gaming" PC. So for Christmas i wanted a gaming PC of some sort, but nothing extreme because i didn't think i would get into PC that much as i had the Xbox one.
So my dad didn't want to buy parts so i could build it, nor did he want to buy on from any other site other than PC world pretty much. so yea, I got a pre built rip off has an i7 4960 and a GT 720 2GB (it came to a total of £680 round that with security and windows etc). So it being a pre build i obviously can't upgrade it.
so i was thinking of selling my Xbox one (because i rarely play it) and my current PC to buy a new better one, but it would seem so ungrateful for what i have and i wonder if my dad would even let me sell it. Im stuck between a rock and a hard place right now and i have no idea what to do lol.

Why not? Just put a good graphics card in it. What model is the power supply?

I've just been told it's very unlikely i'll be able to upgrade because of that reason, plus i might have to buy a new motherboard

It would help if you post the model number or complete specs.

What is the make and model of your case and power supply?
What upgrades are you looking to do?
What is your budget and currency for upgrades?

Edit: what is the model of the i7 you currently have as the 4960 is a X i7 and costs about £800 so unless you got a ridiculous deal for that rig that cant be the model you have.

I've seen pre-builts come with really barebones motherboards, as in 2 DIMM slots, a CPU socket and no PCIe slots. Granted, they're rare but still.

OP-r00t is right, you most likely don't need a new motherboard. The PSU can most likely be replaced and add/upgrade GPU.
