I might be getting a recording device like a roxio or something, say I buy that what else would i need to get to use it properly?

your xbox av cables, i wouldnt recommend a roxio at all this is what happened when i got mine,
And the support is god awful, been a year and i MIGHT just now be getting a replacement, support asked for my info 3 days ago and hasn't got back to me, the admin takes 3-7 days to respond to one question go with an elgato or something.

You pretty much only need a computer and your current console's cables to get it working. The device should come with the other required cables/adapters/software if you're buying it new.

Some people's PCs (Really old ones) can't handle recording but the majority can.

Something I'd recommend would be an external hard drive to store your recordings because they take up a lot of space. Only buy one if you're planning on storing your gameplays though.

Another thing, some capture devices require an external power source from the outlet, so make sure you got one free if you do end up getting one that requires it.

That's pretty much it.
