If you can afford the 970 go for it, it performs better and is much more efficient and runs at lower temps. But only if you will not have to compromise on the rest of your build to buy it.
Whats your budget for the build? or whats your current specs?

Very early stages but:
i5 4690k 3.5GHz quad core
8GB ripjawz x ram
Others are standard for a build of this type.
btw.. its for gaming

Make sure to get a good quality powersupply (not the cheap corsair cx500 ) and do you plan to overclock to cpu?

Budget is from £800-£1000
I was always told an expensive motherboard and power supply is useless? Is that true because the plan was to get a mediocre power supply and motherboard. This is my first build ever btw

^Whoever told you that, is a moron. Don't over-spend on mobo and PSU, but don't get cheap shit either. Your budget is £1k for the whole rig? Will you be overclocking? What exactly will the PC be used for? Do you need peripherals?

If you buy a cheap powersupply with shitty chinese capacitors and it blows, it can take out other components with it, like your gpu, motherboard etc.

edit: blue ram would look silly, get the black or blue ones so it matches the colour scheme.

Could do this;

No overclocking the CPU, and no SSD but 980Ti in there so you can rock 1440p. You will obviously want to grab a 1440p panel asap if you go with that rig though, and add an SSD when you can. The case is due back in stock tomorrow and the GPU will be back in stock in a week or so, so you do have to wait a little for the GPU, but it's brand new, so that's expected.
This is assuming the system is for gaming, and you don't need peripherals.
