Whenever I see someone say this it makes me sick. Do you blame forks for making people fat? There is an exponential list that goes on and on.. Guns do not kill people, ignorant and uneducated people (of all races) with guns kill people. This man was sick in the head, and what he did was a shame and a downright travesty, but don't sit there and say you're glad that guns aren't legal, because it has nothing to do with it. The average police response time in the United States is 11-12 minutes.. the average 9mm bullet travels approximately 1100-1300 feet per second. You tell me what is going to save your family faster, waiting for the police or being armed and prepared.

Not every emergency is someone with a gun trying to kill your family though...

Every problem is solved with guns then? No.

Not at all what I said. Your taking what I said out of context and out of the original purpose to what is was said for. I am saying, that guns are not bad and people shouldn't feel like they need to be illegal for them to be safe. I used that as an example. I am simply stating, when guns are illegal, and you cannot use them anymore, how will you be able to protect your family in a situation like that? Try and reason with the intruder? Not every problem is solved with a gun.. but when it comes to my loved ones safety, then i don't have time to sit and wish things were different. I understand you guys may be from the UK, but i felt like putting my two sense in because this is an article from the US and it involves current events in the US. We are currently in a fight with our second amendment over idiots like this guy, the purpose of my post was to state how i felt about this persons post.

This sums up my point

But we all have opinions, live in places where if one thing is normal, it may not be to someone else. I'll just leave it at that. I don't want to argue or spam this thread. My thoughts go out to those killed and their families.

Same, I'm happy they are illegal in UK. Much safer and still protected by police etc.

The US is a very different place to the UK though.
Banning guns in the US wouldn't have the same affect as the ban on them in the UK.
The UK has much tighter border control because we're an island, it's much harder to get guns into the country, whereas the US has two large borders, one with a country which is embroiled in gang violence.
If guns were banned it would push them into an underground black market and criminals would be the only ones with guns.
Mexican gangs would simply add guns to their list of over the border exports into America.

What the US should do, in my opinion, is increase the tenacity of background and mental checks for people trying to buy guns and encourage the American people to keep their guns in more secure places - so that people like Adam Lanza can't get their hands on them and a baby can't accidentally shoot their parent.

Equally I dislike the argument from pro-gunners that 'Guns don't kill people, people kill people, should we ban forks because they make people fat?'
A fork isn't made with the intention of doing damage to something.
The primary purpose of a gun is to do damage to something, whether that be a person, animal, target, etc.
They are not analogous.

There are also issues with the pro-gun statement that, 'Guns are used for defence.'
Using guns in self defence is actually a rare occurrence.
The Violence Policy Centre recently released a study which shows that for every 258 cases of justifiable homicide involving a civilian using a gun, there are 8,342 murders by people using guns.
So while there is still an argument for self defence, it is negligible when weighed up against the murder by gun rate.

In the interest of fairness it should be said that this study doesn't take into account a person brandishing a weapon without discharging it in self defence, and doesn't take into account criminals who don't die as a result of being shot.

@OP:

This guy is a terrorist.
By the definition of someone using intimidation and violence for political gains, he is a terrorist.
He said during the shooting:
'I have to do it. You rape our women and you're taking over our country. You have to go.'
That is a political aim, and he is clearly talking about black people, not only because of who he killed, but because of the ideology he supports.
In this picture he has two flags, the top flag is representative of Rhodesia. A racist state held by the British in Southern Africa during 1965-1979 in what is now known as Zimbabwe.
The bottom flag is representative of Apartheid, specifically the Apartheid in South Africa which was the time in which blacks and whites were segregated.

There's also a rumour that he had 'The confederate states of America' on his license plate, but that's unconfirmed.

Humpback wrote A man goes to a historic black Church in Charleston, SC and gun down 9 adults at a Bible study. He kills 6 females, 3 males. The Pastor and State Senator, Clementa Pinckney was one of the people killed in the shooting. Dylann Roof (the shooter) drove from Charleston, SC to Shelby, NC where he was apprehended.

My Opinion
What the hell is this, why would someone do this? He (Dylann Roof) was in the Bible study for about an hour before he gunned down the people in Church, maybe the man is insane but why does this sh*t happen?
I live about 15 minutes from Shelby, NC and this could have literally been any of my friends at Church last night. Also, IMO I don't know if I can take "he is insane" because he goes into a Church, waits an hour, waits till the people are praying before he shoots 9 people. That makes no sense to me, it looks like he was racist and makes it seem like a hate crime.

*EDIT*
People are saying that the shooter left a 5 year old and another adult as witnesses. Makes it seem more and more like a hate crime, it made it seem like he wanted to be caught.

It's a sad thing to see how often these things happen & also to see what has happened to this world

Some good news is that he has been found:

Sadly from my perspective is that there is a photo of him wearing a jacket with the old pre-apartheid South African flag, however it says nothing about him having any affiliation with my country... This isn't doing us any favours, there's a lot of commotion happening here at the moment because of what he did!.....

Edit: I didn't realise you had linked his arrest.

Ahh, I love the death penalty for these people.. But, he is 21, he deserves death. I want him to suffer in prison though, a good long life in prison is what he really deserves IMO.

This guy went in and sat at the church during the prayers and stuff for sometime before shooting.
This is clearly a racially motivated terrorist attack.

He came out and said he did it because he wanted to start a race war.

Technically it is classified as a terroristic attack, but no one looks at it that way because it was American on Americans.
