This is clearly a racially motivated terrorist attack.

He came out and said he did it because he wanted to start a race war.

Technically it is classified as a terroristic attack, but no one looks at it that way because it was American on Americans.

A friend knew all about it, he probably didn't believe he would follow through. But, if the friend would have came up and told authorities (keep in mind, he was probably scared for his safety) the cops still wouldn't have acted until someone was hurt.

Charleston church massacre suspect: 'They were so kind I almost stopped'

Dylann Roof, who has been charged with nine counts of murder, appears in court where victims' families say they forgive him

The callow young white man accused of shooting nine people in a church in Charleston, South Carolina almost didnt go through with it because he had been treated so kindly by the mostly-black congregation, police sources said on Friday.

Dylann Roof, 21, sat for nearly an hour in a bible study group at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, before opening fire and killing three men and six women, including the churchs charismatic pastor and an 87-year-old woman parishioner.

Roof described his second thoughts during interviews with police before he was charged with nine counts of murder. He "almost didn't go through with it because everyone was so nice to him, the sources told NBC News, but ultimately he decided to go through with his mission.

That mission and the picture of social dislocation and race hate that apparently drove Roof to mass murder became clearer on Friday as friends and family emerged to describe a deeply troubled young man harbouring white supremacist views.

guns dont kill people. People kill people guns have nothing to do with it he could use any weapon he wants

The main problem is that guns are superior to any other weapon on the street. You can not shoot a knife, if someone has a knife you could try to fight them off whereas with a gun anyone can shoot it from range.

What is the point in them being so openly legal? you can get guns here in the UK but you have to be licensed. Not sure if it is as easy in the US anymore but i watched a documentary on the Columbine massacre and you could open a bank account to receive a gun...

The gun laws in the US need to be changed, so many shootings happen and to people who simply don't deserve it. Just some examples that would not of happened to the extent they did: Columbine, Sandy Hook Elementary, Virginia Tech.

I know lots will not agree but it cannot be argued against.

I watched that documentary too. And you could just go to walmart and buy ammo like it's groceries.

This has been all over the news here in Georiga. I don't live too far from South Carolina.

It's sad that he did this. Racist prick deserves the death sentence. Who in their right mind walks into a black church, sits and listens to the preacher for a while, then unloads when they go to pray. It's sick.

Yes, because people willing to commit mass murder are deterred by legislation against such acts.
You'll just further expand the black market gun business where anti-gun Democrat senators like Leland Lee can run their guns at a higher price.

Gun law this and gun law that! Our 2nd Amendment is once of the biggest factors that set us apart from any other nation in the world! People have to remember, It may not happen often in the UK but the UK only has 64.1 million residents and they have strict gun laws. The United States has 5x the amount of people then UK does and have less strict gun laws. So theoretically, the US should have more Mass Killings than the UK. Well the UK has a total of 64 deaths since the year 2000 in mass killings (7 or more deaths at one time). The US had 233 deaths since 2000 in mass killings (7 or more deaths at one time). So if you put the numbers up that is for every 1,000,000 people in Great Britain there is 1 death by Mass killing. For every 1 million people in the US 0.72 people die from Mass Killings. Keep in mind the US has less strict gun laws.
