I was planning on getting a 1440p Monitor with a 980 TI but it runs games like GTA 5 at like 45 FPS when I will have it modded pretty good.
Could I do SLI 970 with a 3 1080p monitor setup

Did it ever occur to you that people have lives outside of this forum?
Anyways. The benchmarks you probably viewed had GTA Maxed out completely. We're talking AA x16, MSAA x8, reflection MSAA x8, Post FX at Ultra, and FXAA. You don't need to have those completely maxed out.
You can (Waste of a 980ti in my opinion) go for a x3 1080p setup... Or the better option would to have one 1440p in the middle and two 1080p on the sides for recreational use.
Go for the 980ti plus 1440p panel, and later on if you still need the 3 monitor setup, get two 1080p monitors for the sides.
The 980ti wasn't created for 1080p, it was meant for 1440p/4k.

What about the SLI 970 Question
SLI 970's is definitely strong enough for 3 1080p panels, but I really would recommend getting the 1440p panel.

1 980ti is roughly 650-700 USD, that would be around $1300-1400. That's a lot of money.

SLI 970s will cost about the same. So why not just get another 980ti. He already has one.

He's made quite a few threads I've seen. I thought he decided on getting one? Undecisive.
Well then 2 970s will be good.
