Mystery solved. For the record, I do find dark humor funny, but it was the situation that caused me to initially post.

I'm posting this in Off-Topic Discussion because this isn't really about the Elder Scrolls Online game or even gaming in general, it's about the joke that the verified ESO Twitter account made today as well as the moral of the situation:

I know it's been almost 15 years, I know that only thousands of people died in comparison to much greater death tolls that have occurred world wide since this event, and I'll admit, I don't really mind if I see some general user making jokes about the event, but for the verified ESO Twitter to do it seems very bad.

That's pretty bad if you ask me. I don't think he intended to offend anyone but a lot of people will take it as very offensive.

mmm I dont see the official twitter actually posting this, I know its just a joke but A) it was a bad joke and B) a big name like ESO shouldnt be posting this...

you can joke about 9/11 idc but when you represent a games name you shouldnt joke about it..

Yeah, this seems very unprofessional. Normally I would just say "get TUFF" but I see your point. A company of their size should not be making these jokes.

It's the verified Twitter account for the game. It's not a fake.

I thought about that as well, but I would guess that someone who hacked into that account would do something other than post offensive things. They could, for example, scam the followers of the account by advertising special offers/accepting payment from the followers.

Excellent catch! I got thrown off because the fan based account is verified and looks identical! I hope that they get their verification revoked for this.

It's a joke. Humor is subjective and others may find it funny.
