TheTechGame Community Events Poll & Discussion
If you've been on the site for a while you should know that every now and again we host some form of community event. Whether it be a "Community Game Night", "Ninja/ Wizard Contests", or some form of varying skill based contests. We've been going for a while and we haven't exactly gone down to brass tax and asked users what they like the best. We do our best to create enough contests as to keep the userbase wanting more, however, it seems we've been going on and on with the same ones for a while now. The staff team now would like some of your brilliant ideas!

Points to highlight:

- Include a quick summary of the contest/event
Tell us what you want to see more of, can be an event or a contest either one is brilliant. Use the HELPFUL and NOT HELPFUL system to show your interest.
All member ideas that are not repeats will be posted below!
Shouterday
Shouterday wrote I prefer the events that involve the community as a whole, like a mass game night or assign events to certain sections like game nights for all platforms, group projects, and such. Wizard and Ninja contest seem fun but honestly it involves one person getting the badge.
Tanshin
Tanshin wrote i like the concept for the wizard badge however for idiots like me it's near impossible, I do like watching the contest progress though.
So more ninja or wizard contests

it would be cool if there were arranged groups of a small number and ALL users within that group got whatever badge for whatever contest
Tolled/Skittle
tolled wrote Maybe TTG should have an official live stream (which would have a global announcement beforehand to let people know) which could have things like quizzes or competitions, where members watching have the chance to earn things by winning and answering questions etc. Everyone on TTG can participate, but there could be some parts that are only accessible by gold members or another group of users.
tolled wrote In addition to my previous suggestion, members and staff could set up teams that would then face against other teams in the game nights if we were to do those. That would give a very fun difference to the event as it would be a mixture of ability!
OR
The people who want to participate in the game night enter in a fashion similar to the gold members contests, and everyone is randomly placed in a team that would then do what I put above. We could have tournaments, ladders, leagues that span over months even!
Ache
Ache wrote There are always wizard contests every year, so why not ninja contests too?
What is the goal of the contest?
Whoever posts the most life embarrassing video of them preforming their ninja ability gets the badge.
Is it geared toward a select group or can everyone participate?
If you have internet, you must have a phone or camera to record with, so everyone should be able to participate.
Include a quick summary of the contest/event
1. Post a video of you preforming your ninja actions.
2. Top 3 people with thumbs up get a reward.
Not too sure about this though, but I personally would like a chance to humiliate myself in front of all you beautiful people in order to obtain a virtual badge.
Xiggy
Xiggy wrote Personally, I think contests are one of the funnest things to do on TTG. Some of them are hard, Wizard / Ninja, some of them are a bunch of fun, gaming with staff but both bring the community together. In terms of the Wizard and Ninja, I personally think keep it the same as it is now. Wizard is especially hard which makes it one of the best badges to get. Ninja [if anyone remembers mine] was just a laugh and I had a tone of fun making it.
Game With Staff Nights [PC]
The main point for all three games would be to bring the community together and have a laugh. We have the Teamspeak so talking is not an issue. If anyone has the games, im sure they can play.
COD4
You guys may or may not remember the Call Of Duty 4 server that I ran and we had a Game With Staff night on that. I did not get much feedback from it so if you where playing on it, let me know how it was. What can I/we [Craig] do to improve it. Im sure Tyler wouldn't mind busting out hes Dragunov skills again on that. I dont mind hosting one of them again if thats what the community wants?
GTA 5
Now, I was talking to Tyler about this when GTA 5 was sort of new on the PC. He said that there wasnt much staff that played it. I was wondering if that changed or if any of you guys would like to do it. I personally think it would be a bunch of fun with a load of us in a private lobby just going nuts on each other.
CS-GO
Now, I dont own this game but I know many staff do. Im not sure how this would work but im sure it can be done and would be something a little different that normal? Thoughts?
Forest
Forest wrote Would be interesting to see if anyone would like to have tournaments set up for a few different games, with the winner, and runners up winning rep or other prizes.
They would be setup in 1v1 elimination style, or we could do a team tournaments where the winners play against a staff team for an increased prize.
Zeilio
Zeilio wrote 32 players in one pot. 1v1 based with 4 players in each group in the pot. Top 2 qualify into knockout rounds ect ect. If anyone watched the world cup, they would understand. Then the winners of each pot would win something and runners up all that. Each winner of the pot would play other winners of the other pots until we finally have an overall winner. Itd be pretty cool. Like a huge cod tournament and could be recorded and put on youtube labelled as Official CoD TTG Tournament 2015??. Lol, just a suggestion, I for one would most certainly participate.
_Mark
_Mark wrote I wouldn't mind having writing/story competitions like this one here for prizes like badges or rep. Creating stories in my opinion is pretty fun including when you can be very creative. This could be seasonal or random just like the ninja/wizard contests.
-Deano
-Deano wrote I do like seeing the game nights as it lets lots of different people from the community get involved and have a laugh.
The thing with this is that it's usually the same games being played all the time; GTA, CoD, etc. It would be cool to see a wider variety of games being played to allow more/different people to get involved.
One of the better things to do is make an announcement about the game night, then have a poll to choose which games/platform people want to play on the most.
The wizard/ninja contests are cool but let's be honest, 99% of us have no idea what to do so it alienates the majority of the audience.
I think a cool new community event to have would be some kind of "achievement hunter/speedrun" thing.
A game is picked and an objective is set for people to achieve, whether it's complete X chapter in the game as fast as possible or something similar. The event could go on for a couple of weeks and at the end, the user who completed the objective in the fastest time wins the prize.
If not a speedrun thing, then some kind of "elimination" setup, such as 1v1s, ranked teams 5v5s or something like that. This could happen across multiple different games and would encourage TTG members to organise their teams and get more people involved.
Some game recommendations for community nights:
PC:
- CS:GO
- League of Legends/DotA/Smite
- Robocraft
- Team Fortress 2
- Insurgency
- Quake Live
- Starcraft II
- GTA
Not really too sure about the console games as I don't play on them. GTA, Halo and CoD seem to be the most popular.
Panigale
Panigale wrote I'd like to see another "TTG Legit Zombies Leaderboard" when Black Ops 3 comes out.
I don't like to brag but I tied for second on Nuketown Zombies.
Recon
Recon wrote When ever this whole backwards capability actually becomes a reality on the xbox one(Tons more games), we need to do a xbox 360 multiplayer game just so it will bring Xbox 360 users AND xbox one players into the community event.
But as far as right now i think a Game Night would do, simply put up a poll of games that people would like to play, and have it all set up for an upcoming weekend.
GTA 5 game night?
Rent a TTG server on Battlefield 4 all night?
Elder Scrolls?
...Call of Duty?
Just a couple of ideas.
Boruto
Boruto wrote I like the knockout tournament, cycled through various games on/off console idea.
Staff Vs. Community streamed contest..
Honestly the staff streaming and putting themselves directly in should have already been a must (Like an every Friday ordeal but atleast a select day) now I dont know what it takes to make a successful forum board but I could see that kind of treatment to the community skyrocketing its population 10x like the MW2 TTG modded lobby days. TTG Ghettom@n1 #1 for Score leaderboards.(TU6)
I mean the site population is still strong but just imagine..
Put
Put wrote What I like:
Halo custom games (MCC)
We get 16 players (Could be more)
Split them into teams of 2 at random/request
8 different teams
Host 2v2's on Lockout (#LockoutMasterRace)
Elimination tournament
Winners get mad rewards
Runners up get like flowers or something
Everyone gets rep for participation
PlayStation doesn't get Halo lol
Sanctyy
Sanctyy wrote I remember entering a competition where you were given a specific setting(example:creepy, abandoned hotel), somewhere to start the story(invaded by zombies, must escape through foyer doors ONLY, no windows etc) and maybe something else, I remember that we had specific items in our "inventory" at the start of the story that we could use, but we could also pick more up as we progressed, so something like that could also work. Then, the competition would be to write a story, with the kind of rules(or whatever you'd call them(setting/inventory etc)) that are set by staff. The best 3-5 stories or whatever(based on staff's opinions, or a poll, or upvotes/downvotes, or upvotes-downvotes) can get different rewards, respectively. Maybe, a badge for 1st place, month of gold for 2nd and a little bit of rep for 3rd or something?
Qat
Qat wrote
I'll give 12 different contest/event ideas; one for each month respectively.
- Christmas giveaway contests (user and staff submitted)
Users could submit in various items with proof by PMing staff and have the giveaways run through the past contest system where you simply click to enter the giveaway. No topics.
- Graphics contest
Make the best graphics (like in the past)
- Ninja contest
Prove your ninja skills (like in the past)
- Random gold giveaway
Just click to enter contest (same as DaleUK's past Gold Rush giveaways)
- Photography contest
Submit your own photography, winner is chosen through amount of upvotes
- Talent show contest
Showcase your talent (dance, singing, balancing cats on your head)
- Tournament style contest
1 v 1 or team based games. Staff against users?
- Wizard contest
Become 0ne.
- Storytelling contest
Write the best story (like in the past)
- Game with staff (Fun night)
- Most amazing in-game feat
Submit a video of an amazing in-game feat. (Snipe someone out of a helicopter, amazing goal on fifa, stick someone across the map on Halo, etc.)
- Seasonal contest/event
(Halloween costume contest, Easter drawing contest, etc.)
I tried to pick contests that ALL users can participate in, but I would like to see more game with staff events.
btw, if there was a Halo contest, might as well claim me the winner. Nice post Tyler-, thank you.
Potion
Potion wrote Some community game nights and competitions would be nice.
Minecraft building competition.
Everyone builds on an official TTG Minecraft PC server and the top 3 get rewarded with badges and other stuff.
CSGO Tournament
Host an official TTG CSGO tournament for site members. The members will form teams of 5 with whoever they want as long as they are members of the site (EX. Potion, Skittle, Tattoo, Wubs, Alexyy). Teams of 5 members with a minimum of 16 teams. Winning team gets badges, rep, or steam cards.
Casual Game Night
The community plays casual games like Minecraft together on an official server.
Snowflake
-Snowflake wrote The zombie tournament was fun!!!
I think we should do something like that.
Or even better we should have groups sign up in a bracket format for advance warfare and have them play against each other.
Live steam the battle on twich or something you may get people to join the site because they want to join. Have each.
I bet a lot of people will join.
Either have some donations for a cash prize, or just give out awesome badges to the winning team.
Confederacy
Confederacy wrote humorous contest.
See who could come up with the funniest video picture or story!
have 3 categories
Story
Video
Picture
have a limit on the video maybe 2:00 minutes long?
Tolled
tolled wrote Another idea I have come up with is an official plug.dj room, the PC nerds keep making new ones which die within a week so an official one with a link on the TTG homepage would be a nice addition!
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] <-- Not taken
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] <-- It looks like this one is owned by TDK, I am sure it could be reopened and if needed be the ownership transferred to Sean or another Staff/Member willing to host the community

Well if we go for "Who is the biggest noob" Tyler would win every time due to his bad Draganov skills.

There are always wizard contests every year, so why not ninja contests too?
What is the goal of the contest?
Whoever posts the most life embarrassing video of them preforming their ninja ability gets the badge.
Is it geared toward a select group or can everyone participate?
If you have internet, you must have a phone or camera to record with, so everyone should be able to participate.
Include a quick summary of the contest/event
1. Post a video of you preforming your ninja actions.
2. Top 3 people with thumbs up get a reward.
Not too sure about this though, but I personally would like a chance to humiliate myself in front of all you beautiful people in order to obtain a virtual badge.
