hey guys so i am building my first pc and ive put this together, but i thought id get some more input on it !

im looking to keep the budget anywhere from $1100 to $1200, a little over $1200 is fine
also do you think i should get the gtx 970 or r9 390 (theyre both the same price)

No, don't buy that. The PSU is baaad. The case is meh, and the cooler doesn't belong in that rig, unless you're not overclocking I suppose.

How much editing and what not will you actually be doing? What kind of gaming will you be doing?

for gaming i just want to make sure it can play modern and upcoming titles 1080p at a great frame rate
editing i use after effects and a lot of 3d programs so i thought the 6 core cpu would come in handy when it comes to rendering and what not

The 5820k is more than likely more than you'll ever need to use IMHO. Will you overclock? A Xeon E3-1231 V3, or an i7-4790k would be more than enough for your needs IMO, most likely.
