I have tried researching myself but I cannot find the answer to my questions. I was wondering if the steam machines are also compatible with mouse and keyboard as well as its unique controller. I was also wondering how it would connect to a TV would it just have component cables like an Xbox 360 or use HDMI or have its own sort of cable. Just a few questions I apologise for not knowing much about them.

It would use a HDMI cable to connect to the TV and yes you can plug a keyboard and mouse into one via USB ports.

Yeah also not many games are supported in big picture mode yet.

I would just build a PC and plug in a controller.

Much more control on your own parts and you know you can play any of the games you buy.
