I have a tablet but I literally never use it.
So I don't know if I'd be very helpful.
But the Wacom tablets seem to be very good.
I have a Wacom Bamboo Splash, and it's good enough, when it works.
Sometimes it acts up, and doesn't want to cooperate.

I don't like the color of the background.
Change it to a color that gives it more contrast.
Maybe a light blue?

It wasn't so much rushed, more like just not as much effort.
Sometimes when I make things like the vanguard poster I put days of hard work into it.
And sometimes when I'm bored at night I'll do something casual for fun.
It still took some time. I just didn't try as hard.
I was also going for a cleaner look, simpler, more basic look with this one.

Eh, you've seen my work long enough. You know I don't like working contrasting colors on my illustrations. I generally stick with an analogous color scheme.
I did try making the shirt a light blue ish color but I didn't like it.

I LOVE illutrations.
And it seems as though you know how to pull them off.
This looks very nice, good highlights, and smooth lines.
The only thing I see that didn't go as-well,
is the end of her hair, on the right side.
Example.
I think it looks a bit strange, and misshaped.
But maybe it's just me.
Also, it would be nice to see the picture you based this illustration off of.
