This is like one of those Mac vs PC topics. It all comes down to user preference at the end. Mac is known for good design for both its user interface and applications, along with the actual device itself. It's user market are typically people who like simplicity, ease of use, and integration with other apple devices, so chances are if you own an iPhone and/or an iPad, you'll probably have a more enjoyable and feature rich experience with a Mac. PC is the most common platform. It has the most programs, and is arguably one of the most diverse and capable operating systems. They typically do not have as long of a battery life as your Macbooks will, and there's more things that can go wrong with Windows machines that are software related. A huge selling point of a Macbook is that they use PCIe SSD's, which are extremely fast compared to your traditional SATA3 SSD, not to mention a standard 5400rpm laptop HDD which most Windows machines come with. I can go on and on about the ups and downs of each platform for hours (I sell and service both Apple computers and PC's) so I can say I know the capabilities, features, and the weaknesses of each platform pretty well.

Windows computers also use PCI e SSDs, also the airflow for them is bad (So technically the design is bad) and the battery life is just as good in some Lenovo laptops. They're not superior to other laptops in any way, just have good marketing.
I am not saying they're terrible but if you want a reliable laptop i would not chose a Macbook. People also have a theory that they have timers in them, within a little time of the Apple care running out a fault will occur (Not saying this is true but makes sense as most Apple users will then buy a new one).

The new macbook is designed poorly, it WILL thermal throttle itself as the CPU gets up to 96C easily and then will downclock to 800MHz to save it, which renders the macbook unbearably slow.

Thanks, I've had a look on them and they look pretty good! Although the macbook is still tempting as some users say it's good and I also get as much as 150GBP off the RRP on the apple website.

If you're going to be a form of power user, so anything more than browsing and word processing then i'd personally not be looking to the MacBook at all, unless you could grab a Pro, maybe.
Depending on what you're doing this can slightly change, but
You'll probably want roughly an i5, 8GB RAM or more, try get one with an SSD, you'll probably want a fair amount of storage aswell, at least 1TB.
Keep in mind you'll be using it for the next few years.

I'll mainly be using it for uni work, some browsing and also for spotify/itunes. The reason why I'm considering the macbook is because I can get a fair bit off the original price and also I've heard good things about it...not too sure now though.
