Holidays are when kids get days off of school for a holiday. Thanksgiving break (1 week) Christmas/Winter holidays/break (2-3 weeks) Spring break (1 week) and depending on the region there are other breaks and holidays that school is out for.

The "Holiday Season" is December. Its mainly the time between Thanksgiving and New Years. After Thanksgiving most people just get hyped for Christmas. Jewish people celebrate Hanuka. I think there are some other holidays around the time of the Winter Solstice. Then New Years is the final holiday.

As stated above, the stages are just a different class range. It goes from pre-school, to elementary (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and in some schools 6th), to middle schools (depending on if 6th is elementary or not it's 6th, 7th, 8th), to highschool (9th freshmen, 10th sophomore, 11th junior, 12th senior) to college. You can do a 2 year or 4 year college, or jump straight into the work force.

As for holidays, it's just time students get off. Labor day, Halloween, Christmas, New years (these two are usually in the same vacation), Easter, Memorial day, then summer vacation. I may have missed a few, but those are what I remember.

Winter and Spring breaks are just "breaks" as people above have said they are only weeks at a time. But the real "holiday" as the British call it is Summer Vacation. Summer vacation is 2-3 months without school.

Winter.

We don't refer to summer as a holiday, well not where i am from in America.

When people refer to a "holiday break" they are referring to the (usually two weeks or so) break during Christmas and new years. Beings that it is considered offensive to say "merry Christmas" or "Christmas break", the word "Christmas" has been replaced with the word "holidays" in the US. Now it is "happy holidays".
