I just got a 24inch monitor today and ever since i got it i've been getting such low fps. do monitor sizes effect your comp?

It is most down to your PC specs, but say if your Monitor was 4K and your computer could not handle is, then your fps would suffer. Download Speccy and post a screenshot of your PC specs

It was very playable with my old monitor but now it's not.

Do you have the new monitor plugged into the GPU? Or is it plugged into the motherboard?

It's plugged at the back of the desktop don't know what's going on.

Could you take a picture of where the monitor is plugged in at the back of the desktop?

I can't take a pic however, there are multiple slots for the hdmi, and vga will i keep switching or what?

Look inside your PC and you should see something like this

Plug whatever video cable you are using into the correct port on that video card

I'm guessing that you got it working as you haven't replied yet, could you confirm whether or not you've fixed it
