I am wondering what I need to start modding. Also where to get the items and approximately how much it will cost.

Well the starting cost is around $200-$300 then you need to invest in KVs and tools if you don't want to use free ones that are kind of meh. You need an RGH or JTAG if you want to do XBOX and you need a jailbroken PS3 if you want to mod playstation.

Well KVs are for xbox and they are what microsoft identifies your console by. It is sort of like a driver's licence number for your xbox. Tools are what you use to do recoveries and what not there are many free ones, but the paid ones are generally better for obvious reasons. They connect via Xbox Live Neighborhood which is basically a leaked xbox development package and you have to install plugins to your xbox. It is all fairly complex, but if you search xxmoddedwarfarexx on youtube you will get a very in depth series on how to get up and running with your RGH/JTAG.

I highly recommend Rodent_Modz if he is still around. Really good guy.

Also don't get scared by it saying it is retail, most of those guys can install an RGH chip in it if you want, it would just cost a bit more. Since it is against the rules to sell RGH/JTAGS on TTG many people dont advertise that they sell them but if you PM them they might be able to assist you.
