Input lag with new 4K monitor

Recently I picked up a 4K gaming monitor, it is great and looks amazing but whenever I go to play Minecraft the input lag in game makes it unplayable, which is strange since my PC can play GTA 5, BF4 and The Witcher 3 in 4K with no input lag.
It is not a harware issue, my PC is all up to date hardware. I have also checked Java and drivers.
Has anyone else come across the problem?
